Located at 8 Potters Pond, Gloucestershire, England in the Cotswolds in Wotton-under-Edge, lies a little Inn called the Ancient Ram Inn.
If you’re looking for a place where the walls whisper, the floors creak, and the shadows seem to have opinions, The Ancient Ram Inn is your next paranormal vacation destination. This famously haunted 12th‑century inn has been called everything from “delightfully creepy” to “the place where my EMF meter filed for workers’ comp.” And honestly? All of those descriptions feel accurate.
🏚️ A Building With More History Than Your High School Textbook
The Ancient Ram Inn sits on land so old it practically needs moisturizer. Built in 1145, it has served as a priest’s residence, a pub, a boarding house, and—most importantly—a hotspot for ghost hunters who enjoy being mildly terrified while pretending they’re not.
The stories range from witches to demons to restless spirits who apparently never got the memo about checking out. Whether you believe in all that or not, one thing is certain: this place has personality.
😈 Demons? Witches? Or Just Really Dramatic Drafts?
Now, we’re not saying the demon stories are true.
We’re also not saying they’re not true.
We’re saying: we respect everyone involved and would very much like to avoid being yelled at by anything supernatural.
The Ancient Ram Inn has a reputation for intense encounters—shadow figures, sudden temperature drops, and the occasional “something tugged my sleeve and I’m not emotionally prepared for that.” But even skeptics admit the atmosphere is… well… charged. Like the building itself is waiting to see if you’re brave or just pretending.
👀 AGHOST’s Visit: The Night the Inn Showed Off
When AGHOST had the chance to investigate years ago, the inn did not disappoint. The owner welcomed the team with the kind of hospitality only someone who lives with ghosts daily can offer—calm, friendly, and slightly amused by everyone else’s nerves.
Inside, the team experienced a few “interesting” moments:
Unexplained noises that were definitely not plumbing.
Movement in empty rooms, unless the ghosts were hosting a private party.
A sudden chill that felt like someone walked right through the group—rude, but memorable.
And one investigator swore they saw something small and shimmering dart past.
Was it a ghost?
A goldfish spirit?
A trick of the light?
We’ll never know, but we hope it’s doing well.
😂 A Place That’s Scary AND Charming
Despite its spooky reputation, the Ancient Ram Inn is oddly lovable. It’s the kind of place where you feel like the ghosts aren’t trying to scare you—they’re just trying to make sure you appreciate the ambiance. The inn has character, charm, and enough paranormal lore to keep you entertained for years.
And if you leave with a story of your own?
Congratulations—you’re part of the tradition.
🕯️ Final Thoughts
Whether you’re a believer, a skeptic, or someone who just enjoys a good ghost story with a side of humor, The Ancient Ram Inn is worth the trip. It’s historic, atmospheric, and just spooky enough to make you question every creak, whisper, and flicker of light.
Just remember:
Be respectful.
Be curious.
And if something taps you on the shoulder…
Maybe don’t turn around too fast.
We tried to make contact again but had gotten no answer, sadly it looks like they don't open it up anymore since the owner had passed away.
