Ectoplasm (ecto) or mist is a cloudy form also naked to the human eye. This form can move with great speeds. It can also take many shapes and sizes. Many feel that you can make out faces in these ecto or misty forms. Things to watch out for might be smoke of any sort. Best way to catch one of these for yourself is using a 35mm camera with 400 speed or higher film, a digital camera, or a camcorder with infrared or night vision. Best of luck, it's a little harder to get then orbs.

The word ectoplasm was coined back in the 1920's when mediums used to claim the ability to channel spirits. While in a trance like state, these self proclaimed mediums would emit a white liquid from their noses and mouth. This was known as the ectoplasm of the spirit.

In photography, ectoplasm is often mistaken as water vapor, fog, or cigarette smoke. The following are examples of photos of fog and smoke. Compare them to the ectoplasm pictures above and you can see a difference. Fog tends to show up across the picture as a thick blanket of motionless circles. Smoke streams are much more thin and confined than ectoplasm.
